With over 130 representatives from 26 countries worldwide, the inaugural event in March 2010 was a huge success and Aspermont UK, PDAC and ICMM are delighted to announce that Mining, People and the Environment will be back on March 5, 2011.
The challenge facing the mining industry is to extract and process mineral resources with the least possible environmental disruption. In order to meet this challenge, it is essential that the industry as a whole understands the changes in the legal landscape, integrates best practice and accountability into their business model, and anticipates future issues and developments.
The 2011 event, which will again coincide with PCAD in March, will aim to build on the issues discussed at this year’s event:
- Law & governance
- the Model Mining Development Agreement
- Who are mining companies accountable to?
- Artisanal and small-scale mining
- Community engagement
- Conflict resolution
- Human rights & grievance mechanisms
- Community development
- Environmental imperatives
- Water security
- Biodiversity
- Sudbury soils study
- Global initiatives
- Launch of the GRI Mining Supplement
- Introduction to e3Pl
