The group of seven self-reliant running coal enterprises had entered in its structure and were transmuted to the sole shareholder company of State Treasury.
Presently, six coal mines belong to JSW S.A. i.e. Borynia, Budryk, Jas-Mos, Krupiński, Pniówek, Zofiówka and Zakład Logistyki Materiałowej [Material Logistic Plant].
Those coal mines was been built in the years 1963-1994 because of increasing demand for high quality coking coal.
They are operating in the south-west part of Górnośląskie Zagłębie Węglowe [Upper Silesian Coal Basin] at the territory following cities and communes: Jastrzębie Zdrój, Żory, Knurów, Mikołów, Świerklany, Suszec, Pawłowice, Mszana, Godów, Orzesze, Ornontowice, Gierałtowice and Czerwionka - Leszczyny.
The mine field of JSW S.A. amounts to 158 km2 and recoverable reserves are estimated at the level of 503,4 mln tons of coal. JSW S.A. employs more then 22 300 employees.
